About this course
“Black is holy. It’s the mysteries of the night sky. We both come from and are contained somehow by this darkness.” ~ Meinrad Craighead
There are many magickal stories of the Black Madonnas and how they arrived at their places of patronage. Some statues were found floating in rivers and some were preceded by visitations and appearances. Other stories tell of miracles, healings, and visions where the Black Madonna spoke to devotees. How interesting that all of this was so readily accepted within the Catholic church and they unwittingly provided a repository with the Black Madonnas for ancient Goddess magic.
Each morning beginning May 1, we will gather on a live call at 11am eastern for approximately 30 minutes of prayer, meditation, and contemplation of the featured Black Madonna. All of the calls will be recorded and uploaded the same day for those who would like to listen later.
Are you ready to open yourself to the mystery, the deep interiority that is the invitation of the Black Madonna? She carries the energetic signature of our primordial Mothers, the ancient Goddesses of Africa and the Middle East, our Dark Mothers. Her gifts include radical healing and transformation. To Her we may turn in the depths of suffering and find understanding and soul comfort. She is fierce, revolutionary and activating. To Her we may petition for a healing of our world, especially in the areas of racial justice and racial equity. To Her all are Beloved and through Her we may enter the Shrine of the Mysteries.
A novena is a succession of devotional prayer totaling nine days. Traditionally, novenas are performed in Catholicism and some forms of Protestantism and usually are devoted to Mother Mary. These nine day vigils have been documented since the third century. Novenas may be performed for special intentions, requests of intercession, or to a particular deity or saint, such as Mother Mary and, for our practice, the Black Madonna. Our Black Madonna Novena is seeking alignment with and exploration of nine Black Madonnas. Many of these aspects are also syncretized to other Goddesses and practices throughout the world.
The Black Madonnas in our Novena:
Our Lady of Czestochowa, Poland
Our Lady of Aparecida, Brazil
Our Lady of Candelaria, Tenerife
Our Lady Under the Earth, France
Our Lady of Regla, Cuba
Our Lady of Montserrat, Spain
Sara La Kali of the Roma, France
Our Lady of Loreto, Italy
Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mexico
We will also be covering Goddesses that are syncretized to the Black Madonnas, such as Erzulie Dantor, Orisha Oshun, Orisha OYA, Orisha Yemaya, Orisha Yewa, Santa Muerte, and more!
Welcome and Bonus Content is immediately available when you register, including correspondences for the Black Madonna, altar inspiration, a Black Madonna calendar, prompts, and what you will need for the Novena.
Each day of the Novena will include information on the myth and magick of each Black Madonna, prayers, journal prompts, practices, and resources to continue to connect, in addition to our morning practice. As well, personal petitions from participants are welcome for the lighting of our beeswax petition candles each day.
All calls will be recorded and uploaded the same day for those who cannot attend the morning meditations.
I am delighted and honored to hold space for our devotion. See you in the Novena! xo Kimberly
